Over the years, En Chang touched the lives of many club members and the collie community in Hawaii through the many litters she whelped and her active participation in club activities, including specialty shows and fundraising efforts. En’s impact was especially important because of the geographical isolation of the islands to the mainland and the difficulty of importing dogs to the islands.
En was involved with the national Collie Club of America organization, serving as Hawaii District Director for many years and regularly attending the national specialty show. She was especially proud of the accomplishments of Gold Grand Champion Overland Remembrance of Things Past, the #3 Rough Collie in the Hawkins System, winner of three Award of Merits at the national show, and a participant at the Westminster Show. En encouraged club members to attend the national specialty show and when they did, she showed them around and introduced them to her national collie contacts.
En was a graduate of Julliard School. She was a concert pianist and gave piano lessons on the baby grand piano in her home.
En was an excellent cook, loved trying new foods and would try to replicate dishes she enjoyed without recipes but going by taste.
The club enjoyed club potlucks at En’s house and the special menu she ordered for Moon Garden club dinners.
En passed away on May 30, 2019 and we hope to carry on her legacy for collies in Hawaii.
Mahalo to En Chang.
